In this position you will assist with the ordering, receipt, storage and distribution of parts, supplies, materials and equipment, including the maintenance of related records. Maintained records include dates input, analysis and records management.

Shifts, in most instances, are decided by seniority and availability. It is possible for you to work the first or second shift. The second shift, however, has a pay premium attached to the salary.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Receive parts, supplies, materials and other equipment upon a written request (want slips, work orders, etc.) from technicians, services workers, service coordinators, foreman/supervisors and other authorized city personnel.
  • Research prices and contact vendors to confirm in-stock status, place orders and confirm shipping dates per needs of customers.
  • Receive and inspect parts ordered and notify vendor in the event of shortages, overages and/or damages.
  • Create and maintain computerized records for tracking the history of orders placed, orders received and payment of goods/services. Maintain computerized and/or hard copy records of transactions.
  • Enter pricing, vender/supplier information, part descriptions, quantities, and other order information into the City Software Inventory and Finance System.
  • Receive and verify shipments for payment of invoices by the Finance Department.
  • Process invoices, calculate costs of parts and convert to unit of measure.
  • Issue safety glasses, uniforms, boots, etc. and track transactions to ensure that established regulations are adhered to.
  • Identify and track warranty claims for parts and products.
  • Operate a fork lift to receive, store and distribute larger stock items.
  • Operate a light duty puck up truck or other vehicle to deliver and/or receive parts and supplies
  • Other duties and responsibilities may be required

Working Conditions: Warehouse/stock room facilities with exposure to noise; dust/dirt; some exposure to inclement weather conditions. This position requires the ability to do heavy physical labor which includes the ability to push/pull/lift/carry heavy items weighing up to 100 lbs.; ability to climb stairs and ladders; ability to reach, balance, bend, stoop, twist and crouch. Required Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma or equivalent

Minimum Experience:
One year of experience in a computerized stockroom performing duties similar to those listed above

Possess and maintain a valid Drivers License
Forklift Certification required within 6 months of hire

An equivalent combination of education and experience closely related to the duties of the position may be considered.

Selection Process: The selection process will consist of one or more of the following steps: a rating of relevant education and experience and/or an oral examination (100%). It is important that your application show all the relevant education and experience you possess. This information will be used to determine which candidates will proceed in the selection process. A submitted application is also used to verify the answers to any supplemental questions. Only those candidates who attain a passing score (70%) on each step in the selection process will be placed on the eligible list. The City of Minneapolis Human Resources Department reserves the right to limit the number in any phase of the selection process.

Interview Selection: The hiring authority reserves the right to determine the maximum number of candidates to interview from the established eligible list. If the hiring authority decides to interview other than by exam score order, they may select additional people to interview based on a candidate's education or experience related to the field, work history, or skills uniquely related to the operational needs of the position.

Background Check: The City has determined that a criminal background check and/or qualifications check may be necessary for certain positions with this job title. Applicants may be required to sign an informed consent form allowing the City to obtain their criminal history and/or verify their qualifications in connection with the position sought. Applicants who do not sign the informed consent form will not be further considered for the position.

Drug and Alcohol Testing: All job applicants must pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test once a conditional offer of employment has been made. Applicants will be required to sign a notification and consent form prior to undergoing drug and alcohol testing. Applicants who do not consent to undergo drug and alcohol testing will not be required to do so and the City will withdraw the conditional job offer, resulting in the job applicant no longer being considered for the position.

Medical Exam: After a conditional job offer, candidates will be required to pass a medical examination which includes a physical screening.

Eligible List Statement: The names of applicants who meet minimum qualification and who pass the screening process shall be placed on the eligible list for employment consideration. This list will be certified to the hiring manager who may use the list to fill a vacancy of the same job title. This eligible list will expire three (3) months after it has been established.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Desired but not required: Two (2) years of Technical College
  • Desired but not required: Three (3) years or more of experience in a computerized distribution center parts environment
  • Knowledge of and ability to use a computerized inventory ordering and payment system.
  • Knowledge of or the ability to learn Green Seal Cert Products.
  • Good customer service skills.
  • Ability to perform calculations and maintain accurate records.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to operate a forklift or similar equipment.
  • May be required to be certified to operate a Bobcat Loader depending on assignment.
  • Physical ability to lift or move up to one hundred (100) pounds.
